Have we ever asked ourselves, how are we doing ? No, right? Have we ever patted our shoulders after a rough day and told ourselves that we did a great job? The answer is probably a no, too. Because, amidst the chaos of life , we often forget about ourselves. In a rush to fly the kite high up in the sky, we hurt ourselves with the strings. We all know what self love is and why it's so important for our personal growth. People talk about it so much that it feels like it's so easy to love ourselves, like we all know how to. But do we really know? Do we know how to be easy on ourselves? How do we forgive ourselves for all the mistakes and ultimately embrace ourselves with love and care? Do we know how to shower our inner selves with love so they can bloom like beautiful flowers?
The path of self love is never a linear one. There are so many directions to it. We have to climb several steps to finally get to a point where we can really love ourselves without caring about anything. In order to love ourselves, we need to learn how to accept ourselves first. How to accept all our flaws. It's probably the hardest step to climb. We are so busy to hate ourselves for all the flaws, that we fail to recognize the beauty of them. We are too immersed in our insecurities to realize that those imperfections are parts of our own selves.
There is a traditional Japanese art of repairing broken pottery by mending the areas of breakage with gold, which is called "KINTSUGI". The broken parts of such potteries make it even more beautiful. It shows us that we can celebrate the flaws and missteps of life even when things fall apart . If we can use this method in our life by mending our broken parts and accepting our imperfections with love, our flaws will glow like gold too.
Rather than beating ourselves for all the mistakes and regretting the wrong decisions we took in the past, we should learn how to accept them and move on by forgiving ourselves. Because all those wrong decisions and mistakes are our own . They mold us into the people that we are today. We need to know that no matter how naive our past selves were or how many mistakes they made, the past us is still us. Love comes from forgiveness and acceptance. So even though it may be a bit difficult in today's fast-paced lifestyle, let's try to make some time to reflect on ourselves and find out all the unhealed wounds and regrets that are stopping us from accepting us and from loving us, and then work on them one by one. Just like we admire the beauty of moon craters and love the moon, we need to embrace our flaws to fully love ourselves too.
So let's take a break and a deep breath. Let's give ourselves a tight hug and tell us it's okay to make mistakes, it's okay to have some bad days , it's okay to sometimes lazily sleep on our bed all day, it's okay to spend some time with only ourselves with a cup of tea and our favorite book, it's okay not to dress up perfectly just to blend in with others and it's totally okay to dress up for ourselves according to our own comfort, it's okay to go easy on ourselves sometimes, it's okay and not selfish at all to sometimes prioritize our happiness over everything, it's okay to not be perfect and most importantly it's okay to BE OURSELVES.
