Lack of awareness significantly amplifies the detrimental impact of mental health stigma, constraining individuals' willingness to address their struggles. Millions of people are being affected by mental health issues, but societal norms often lead us astray, resulting in issues like anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, psychotic disorder, personality disorder, and many more. That means we have to do things to help people understand better and to make sure everyone feels included, no matter what they're going through. Therefore, I believe it is high time to make some changes and disseminate about mental health conditions.

It is affecting us in various ways such as discouraging help-seeking, social isolation, discrimination in the workplace, low self-esteem and even increasing risk of suicide and self harm. Stigma also affects the resources available for proper treatment. Where is the end? From my perspective, the end is in our own hands. A small initiative can bring a major change. Here are some powerful points we can do to help:

  • Dealing people with respect: If we start showing respect towards individuals, it may remove the barrier and help them to cope with their illness. We should stop being harsh on people even though the situation worsens as we don’t know the other side of the story.

  • Being a supporter of our surrounding people: This can make the biggest difference if we start knowing our friends or family a little bit more. Listen to their voice, struggle, and journey, and support them in every way possible. Because the moment they start talking about their problems it gets easier. So, we shouldn’t be judgemental of others in the first place.

  • Educating ourselves about mental health: It will allow us to provide the support one needs who is struggling with their mental health. Start spreading the right and positive information about mental health conditions. It will bring awareness in the society and community as well.
