Eid Unwrapped: Moments of Togetherness and Jubilation

Eid Unwrapped: Moments of Togetherness and Jubilation

The completion of Ramadan is celebrated with Eid al-Fitr, also called the "festival of breaking the fast." It's a day which comes once in a year when friends and family get together to celebrate with traditional food and drink, exchange gifts, and get dressed up in new cloths. Eid day is initiated with a riveting sight where all the Muslim brothers out there gather in mosque or an open place for special morning prayer. In my home, every family members wake up very early in the morning for preparation of this special day. All the male members get ready all together to offer Eid prayer where they greet with each other by saying Eid Mubarak which means “Blessed Eid” and exchange formal embraces. These prayers are regarded as a social obligation that emphasize on the unity and identity of the Muslim community.

I do start my Eid morning by indulging in sweet dishes with my family, friends and neighbors at the very first place and then take other preparations such as cleaning my house, put on new outfit to be part of renewal and festive vibe. There is a complementary tradition on Eid day which is visiting family, extended family members, close friends and neighbors that gradually uplifts everyone’s mood and fosters harmony among all. Giving Eidi to children’s on Eid day plays a crucial role in bringing generosity among them.

From my childhood, I used to wait the whole year for this day to receive Eidi from my elders and once I had the money It would give me immense happiness. All of us are highly encouraged to engage in various charity during Ramadan and Eid day. Giving charity to impoverished and needy not only lessen their sufferings but also embodies the value of empathy, kindness, build stronger and more compassionate societies. I would very much like to share my experience of celebrating last year Eid when I was in Egypt. Egyptian families love celebrating on the streets with their neighborhood, where storytellers, entertainers, and mobile carnivals captivate the audience with traditional tales. It was a fascinating and spectacular experience to be outside taking in the mood or attending a family gathering because the streets were frequently illuminated with lanterns and other festive decorations. Everyone in attendance received a box of literature about Islam as a gift, adding to the celebration of the event. As a memento of the trip, I still cherish those little volumes.

Every year my Eid day is filled with good people, delicious feast, beautiful presents, and dazzling memories that I can cherish any moment in my whole lifetime.
