A Symphony of Spring: Celebrating Pahela Falgun's Arrival

The loud alarm clock went off, breaking my peaceful sleep. I woke up feeling a little bit tired then I saw my phone screen and saw the date 14 February a smile automatically came to my face knowing today is Pahela Falgun, a festive day to celebrate with my family and friends sharing our joyous moments together. I got ready with great enthusiasm to look extra traditional today since we will celebrate a cultural program at our university grand hall to make the day more special. I was little impatient to meet my friends after my class, our teacher was also wearing saree and flower, everyone was wearing colorful traditional clothes, and everyone had a plan to visit the hall Where the Pahela Falgun mela was decorated. Our madam saw our excitement for this program, and she ended our class early so that we could enjoy Falgun together and tour our campus which was decorated with colorful banners and flowers. We went to the hall seeing a large crowd presented there and saw many stalls and decorations were set up. I couldn’t control my excitement so I hurriedly blended into this busy crowd and wondered at every stall I was surprised to see many unique and traditional items; I couldn’t wait to try those food items they were selling at the stalls. I took some snaps and videos of the stalls, foods, and overall decoration. It was so colorful and fresh it made the festive more aesthetic.
As it was the month of February, we
encountered several book stalls. Among them, there was a certain stall that
only sold the books of Humayun Ahmed Sir. Given our admiration for Humayun Sir,
we fondly recalled our younger days when we used to read his books on a summer
vacation. We bought a book which was ‘The Himu Samagra’. It was nostalgic to
hold that book. We could not wait to read that book again from the very
beginning. Additionally, we expanded our haul by purchasing ‘Pather Pachali’
written by Bibhutibhushan Bandyopadhyay, and’ Maa’ written by Anisul Haque.
Every year TSC welcomes Pahela Falgun with
vibrant and colorful theme which makes the day more bright and lively. This
year was not different, flowers, balloons, and colorful banners were used to
create a festive atmosphere. Me and my friends decided to take part in this
celebration, so we all went to TSC with rickshaw and enjoyed the whole
journey. The street was full of people wearing traditional clothes, women’s wearing flower in their hair, kids were
playing, they were painting their cheeks with colorful paint to draw various
design to portrait Pahala Falgun. After reaching there, me and my friends were
mesmerized seeing the festive decorations, banners and all the arrangements.
No
celebration is complete without yummy mouthwatering foods, TSC is no exception.
The food stalls that were set up during the program offer a variety of
traditional Bengali dishes. We ate some gurer pitha, jilapi, narkel pitha but
our most desired food was doi fuchka . These tasty dishes not only expended our
culture it also added an extra dose of joy to the celebration. One of the
highlights of Pahala Falgun celebrations at TSC was the cultural performances
that demonstrated the rich Bengali heritage. Talented students had presented
traditional Rabindra Sangit, dances, and recitations on the stage
entertaining the audiences and keeping
the cultural heritage alive. We enjoyed the performance so much, then we were roaming
around other stalls too. Jewelry stalls caught our attention, there were many
hand-crafted ornaments, reshmi churi, flower garlands. We decided to buy few
things as a momentum for this day. Our pahela falgun celebration ended by
sipping the famous milk tea at TSC then we clicked photos to engrave today’s
celebration as a beautiful memory for a lifetime.
Pahela Falgun is not just a day on the calendar for Bengalis but a lively celebration introducing the arrival of spring. Through its colorful festivities, joyous gatherings, and cultural traditions, it starts a new chapter, reminder of refreshment, hope, and the beauty of nature's awakening. As we bid farewell to the winter chill breeze and embrace the warmth of the sun. We carry the spirit of Pahala Falgun in our hearts, cherishing its memories and looking forward for its return with each passing year.
